On Monday May 2nd at 6 PM, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts will be celebrating Tennessee Williams and the 75th Anniversary of A Streetcar Named Desire.
As part of their series celebration, there will be readings of Uta Hagen’s acclaimed portrayal of Blanche, with archival footage and readings from Uta’s journal along with other rare materials from the Library’s collection.
Readings will be done by HB Studio family members Laila Robins and Austin Pendleton. Here are the event details:

Born in Germany, Uta Hagen moved to Madison, Wisconsin, at the age of six. With the exception of several interruptions for study in Europe, Ms. Hagen received most of her schooling in Madison, her home until age sixteen. After training briefly at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, she made her professional debut in 1937 in Dennis, Massachusetts, as “Ophelia” in Eva Le Gallienne’s production of Hamlet.
